An 18-year-old Vaughan woman faces multiple charges of theft and fraud involving several victims in Vaughan who met her through an online dating platform and invited her to their homes.

Police were contacted by a man Jan. 26 who reported that a woman he met through online dating had stolen valuables from his house, York Regional Police said in a news release. In the following days, several more calls were received from men reporting similar thefts.

Investigators learned a female suspect with a profile name of Sophie would engage with men on an online dating app and arrange to meet them at their homes. After she left, the victims discovered that cash and financial cards had been stolen, police said, adding some cards were fraudulently used.

The suspect was arrested Feb. 21 at her residence Vaughan and is charged with theft under $5,000, fraud under $5,000 and fraudulent use of credit card.

Police believe there are other victims who have not yet contacted police and are urging them to come forward.

The accused has been released from custody. As investigators are concerned that she may have interacted with other victims when she was younger than 18, her identity and court date is not being made public.
