A 26-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in Vaughan by an Uber driver, who afterwards used her phone to give himself a favourable review and a tip, according to York Regional Police.

Police are encouraging any other victims to come forward to speak with investigators.

In the early morning hours of Sunday, April 23, a man working as an Uber driver in a white 2021 Toyota Corolla picked up the woman near Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue in Toronto to transport her to Vaughan, police said in a news release.

The victim was sexually assaulted after the vehicle pulled into a parking lot near Rutherford and Weston roads, after which her cellphone was taken by the suspect, who concluded the trip on the rideshare app while giving himself a 5-star review and a tip.

The victim's phone was returned to her, she exited the vehicle and the suspect drove away, police said.

The victim was not physically harmed in the incident, according to police.

Police have obtained a warrant for the arrest of Vikram Lather, 53, of Brampton, who is charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of fraud under $5,000. Police are urging him to contact a lawyer and turn himself in.
