Toronto man arrested in Vaughan armed robberies

Investigators with the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit have laid charges against a 33-year-old man following two commercial robberies in the City of Vaughan.

On Thursday, Dec. 11, 2019, at approximately 6:35 p.m., a lone male suspect attended a grocery store located on Centre Street near New Westminster Drive, in the City of Vaughan. The suspect approached an employee and made a demand for cash while he exposed a portion of a firearm that was concealed in his jacket. The employee told the suspect to get out of the store and the suspect fled without obtaining any money.

At approximately 6:50 p.m., the same suspect attended a fast food restaurant location on Disera Drive in Vaughan. The suspect approached the employee and made a demand for cash while again displaying a portion of a firearm in his jacket. The suspect obtained a small amount of cash and fled the area in a vehicle.

Investigators were able to identify the vehicle and the suspect and a warrant was executed at his residence in Toronto. He was arrested and is now facing charges.

  • Kulathevan Sivagnanasundaram, 33, of the City of Toronto

Charges:

  • Robbery with a firearm x2

The accused will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket later today.
