Three charged in Vaughan deadly shooting

Police believe a fourth suspect may be involved

Investigators with the York Regional Police Homicide Unit have identified the victim, charged three suspects and are seeking a fourth suspect following a murder in the City of Vaughan.

On Friday, Sept. 21, 2018 shortly after 8 p.m., York Regional Police were called to a plaza located at 3850 Steeles Ave. W. in the City of Vaughan for a report of the sound of gunshots.

When officers arrived they found a 49-year-old male victim at the rear of the plaza, in the parking lot, suffering from gunshot wounds. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries.

The victim has since been identified as Behget Toma Eyup, 49, from Tottenham. His cause of death is multiple gunshot wounds.

With the assistance of the Toronto Police Service the suspect vehicle was located in the City of Toronto and three suspects were taken into custody.

Charged:
  • Shaqwan Reid, 18, City of Toronto
  • 16-year-old male youth from the City of Toronto
  • 15-year-old male youth from the City of Toronto
Charge: second degree murder

Investigators have reason to believe that there was an additional suspect involved in this incident. They are not releasing any further details on the suspect at this time however, they are urging this person to seek legal counsel and turn himself in immediately.

Anyone who aids or assists this suspect in escaping or evading police may be subject to a criminal charge of accessory after the fact.

The club located within the plaza at 3850 Steeles Ave. W. is being held for further investigation.

Investigators have been interviewing witnesses and will be following up on information gained through this co-operation.  

Any additional witnesses that may have seen or heard anything in the area leading up to, or following, the shooting are asked to contact police. Investigators are also appealing to any nearby businesses or residences that may have video surveillance, or any drivers who may have dashcam footage to please come forward.
