A driver pulled over in Newmarket by police today should have just stayed home — even if he was "just going down the street."

The driver is facing several charges after a York Regional Police officer spotted the camper converted into an "unsafe trailer" with a "scrap" of tire left on one wheel.

"No big deal, I'm just going down the street" the driver told the officer after being pulled over, according the force's Twitter feed.

The trailer has been removed from the road and charges include driving with an improper tire, insecure load, no signal and improper means of attachment.

Traffic violations are among the crimes that have decreased as a result of pandemic that has seen many local residents following the guidelines to stay at home to help halt the spread of COVID-19, according to York police.
