Teens face drug, weapons charges following Markham traffic stop

Officers found a loaded handgun, as well as cocaine and fentanyl during vehicle search yesterday, York Regional Police say

York Regional Police has charged two men with multiple offences, including firearms offences and drug trafficking, after stopping a vehicle for speeding in Markham.

On Thursday, Aug. 27, 2020 at approximately 10:30 p.m., an officer conducting speed enforcement stopped a vehicle for speeding in the area of Highway 7 East and Ninth Line. The officer observed cannabis readily available to the driver of the vehicle. When searched, officers located a loaded handgun. The passenger was found in possession of cocaine and fentanyl.

Charged:
    •    Chanel Pryce, 19, City of Oshawa
    •    Lawrence Bruce, 19, City of Markham

Charges include:
    •    Carrying a concealed weapon
    •    Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
    •    Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition
    •    Possession of prohibited device or ammunition
    •    Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
    •    Occupy motor vehicle with firearm
    •    Possess loaded regulated firearm
    •    Possess firearm obtained by crime
    •    Proceeds of crime not exceeding $5,000
    •    Firearm possession contrary to prohibition order
    •    Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
    •    Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking
    •    Speeding – 82 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone
    •    Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available
    •    Drive motor vehicle with liquor readily available

The investigation is ongoing.
