Suspects in violent assault at tire shop still at large

Police are re-releasing the video of the attack that occurred in Vaughan last August, which left one man with serious injuries from which he may not recover

Investigators with the York Regional Police #4 District Criminal Investigations Bureau are re-releasing video of a violent assault that occurred in 2018 and continue to seek public assistance to identify two suspects following an altercation at a tire shop in the City of Vaughan. On Monday, Aug. 20, 2018, shortly after 1 p.m., police were called to a tire shop located on Hanlan Road for a report of an assault in progress.

When officers arrived, they found two men, one suffering from serious injuries. He was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries, from which he may not fully recover. Investigators have been able to determine two unknown men entered the tire shop looking to speak to one of the employees. Shortly after, the men entered the store, they assaulted one of the employees who fled out the front door of the shop.

The two men returned to the business and assaulted a second victim. During the assault, the victim was punched and kicked multiple times and a tire was thrown at his upper body.

Following the assault, the suspects fled the area on foot, south on Scholes Road toward Steeles Avenue.

Investigators are releasing video surveillance of the assault and are asking anyone with information about the identities of the suspects to please come forward to police. Warning: The video contains violence and may be disturbing to some viewers. 

Suspect 1:

  • Male, Black
  • 5’7”, medium build
  • Wearing a black hoodie, black bandanna on his head

Suspect 2:

  • Male, Black
  • 6’1”, thin build
  • Wearing a blue hoodie, blue bandanna on his head, also wearing sunglasses

This investigation is ongoing. Anyone who may be able to identify either of the suspects is asked to come forward.
