Suspect steals $8,000 guitar from Richmond Hill store by hiding it in baggy pants, police say

York Regional Police has released images of 2 men — one with 'extremely large' pants — wanted in connection with the Dec. 30 theft report

Investigators with the York Regional Police #2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau are seeking public assistance to identify two suspects following the theft of a guitar from a music store in the City of Richmond Hill.

On Dec. 30, 2021, York Regional Police received a report from a music store, located in the area of Leslie Street south of Elgin Mills Road East, regarding a theft.

Investigators learned that on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2021, an unknown male suspect entered the store and stole a guitar by hiding it down his pants. He fled from the area in a vehicle being driven by a second male suspect. The guitar stolen was a Gibson Custom Shop 60th Anniversary ’59 Les Paul Standard electric guitar, valued at approximately $8,000.

Investigators are releasing images and video surveillance and are appealing for any information that may assist in the investigation. The video can be found here.

  • 20s
  • Wearing extremely large, baggy pants, a black coat and a Toronto Maple Leafs baseball hat

Suspect No. 2

  • Male, white
  • 20 to 30
  • Wearing a black mask, a black hoodie and sunglasses
