Suspect pulls knife on victim in bus fracas, York police say

Police release images of male suspect in bus confrontation at Promenade Mall bus loop

Investigators with the York Regional Police #4 District Criminal Investigations Bureau are seeking public assistance to identify a suspect wanted for an assault that occurred on a transit bus in the City of Vaughan.

On Friday, May 17, 2019, at 9:28 a.m., police were called to the bus loop at Promenade Mall for a report of an assault that had occurred.

Investigators have learned that a male suspect was seated on the bus in accessibility seating. A woman boarded the bus, pushing a stroller with a child and asked the suspect to move his bag from a seat. The suspect responded to her with an offensive comment. The victim, a 50-year-old man, overheard the comment and confronted the suspect. During the confrontation, the suspect pulled out a knife and pointed it at the victim.

Investigators are releasing images of the suspect and appealing to anyone who may be able to assist with identifying him to please contact the police.

Suspect:

  • Male, white
  • 20 to 24 years
  • Thin build
  • Black hair
