Suspect and witness sought in serious Vaughan hit and run

Investigators with the York Regional Police Major Collision Investigation Unit continue to seek witnesses and the driver of a suspect vehicle following a serious fail-to-remain collision in the City of Vaughan.

On Tuesday, May 17, 2022, police were called to the Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital for an injured person report. When officers arrived, they learned that the victim, an 18-year-old male from Vaughan, had been riding riding an electric scooter on Jane Street in the area between Langstaff Road and Teston Road, between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Monday, May 16, when he was hit by a vehicle described as possibly a dark-grey Kia SUV.

The female driver of the SUV, along with another male pedestrian, tended to the victim, but the female driver did not remain at the scene. Investigators have not been able to locate the driver or the witness who stopped to assist.

The victim was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

We are asking any witnesses to please contact police. The driver of the SUV is urged to speak with a lawyer and turn herself in.

Suspect Description:

  • Female, white
  • 20 to 30 years
  • Dark hair in a bun
  • Wearing a white t-shirt
  • Driving a dark grey SUV

Any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police, or anyone who may have dashcam footage of the collision, are being asked to please come forward.
