UPDATE: SIU investigating shooting of suspects in Markham home invasions

One man was pronounced dead at the scene this morning, while another man is in stable condition in hospital, York Regional Police say

UPDATE: According to a Special Investigations Unit news release, preliminary information suggests:

  • Today, York Regional Police officers were investigating a white vehicle. The officers were in plainclothes, and in unmarked police vehicles.
  • At about 7 a.m. on Eyer Road, a confrontation occurred between occupants of the vehicle and police officers.
  • Two officers discharged their firearms and two men were struck. One of the men was pronounced deceased at the scene, and the other was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
  • Two other occupants of the vehicle, a man and woman, were taken into custody.

Seven investigators and four forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.

Two suspects were shot — one was fatally wounded — by York Regional Police officers this morning during an investigation linked to a spree of recent armed home invasions in Markham.

At approximately 7:10 a.m. Nov. 25, one man was pronounced deceased at the scene in the area of Eyer Drive and Calvert Road and a second man was transported to hospital where he is in stable condition, police said.

Two men and one woman were arrested and remain in custody.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating the officer-involved shooting.

Officers were in the area as part of their investigation into six recent home invasion robberies, police said, when the interaction occurred between officers and multiple suspects.
