In the early morning hours of Oct. 15, 2019, a 13-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy were seriously injured when the SUV in which they were occupants was involved in a motor vehicle collision in a Toronto intersection. Moments prior to the collision, a York Regional Police officer had briefly pursued the SUV.

The York Regional Police officer spotted an SUV with two young occupants in the area of Dufferin Street and Centre Street in Vaughan at approximately 4:40 a.m. Oct. 15. When the officer attempted to stop the SUV, the vehicle fled from the scene.

A short time later, the SUV collided with a truck at Dufferin and Finch Avenue West in Toronto.

The Director of the Special Investigations Unit, Joseph Martino, has determined that there are no reasonable grounds to believe that the officer committed a criminal offence in connection with the collision.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
