Shots fired through store window at Vaughan plaza

York Regional Police say the suspect in today's shooting is similar to a man who threatened an employee last week in the same plaza

Investigators with the York Regional Police #4 District Criminal Investigations Bureau are seeking assistance to identify a suspect following a shooting, armed extortion and threats in the City of Vaughan. 

On Friday, Sept. 6, 2019, shortly after 5 p.m., York Regional Police responded to a report of a shooting at a business located at 3550 Rutherford Rd. When officers arrived, they found that multiple shots had been fired through the front window of the business. There were employees inside at the time of the shooting, but they were not physically injured. Following a review of video surveillance, the suspect is believed to be the same suspect who had previously threatened an employee with a firearm. 

On Thursday, Aug. 29, 2019, at approximately 12:45 p.m., York Regional Police responded to a parking lot on Rutherford Road west of Highway 400 for a report that a victim had been threatened by a suspect armed with a handgun. The victim had been sitting inside her vehicle, in the parking lot with the window down when a male suspect approached her from behind and stuck a firearm in the open window. The suspect made several demands and threatened the victim then struck her with the firearm. The suspect fled the scene in beige-coloured SUV. 

SUSPECT DESCRIPTION: 

  • Male 
  • Dark skin tone 
  • Approximately 5’7” with a thin build 
  • Wearing a black hoodie, a red vest, and a black mask over the lower part of his face 
  • Armed with a gold-coloured handgun
