Schomberg man, 52, charged with impaired, dangerous driving after collision

A 52-year-old Schomberg man is facing numerous charges, including impaired and dangerous driving, following a collision in Bradford.

On Sunday, Feb. 16, 2020, around 5 p.m., South Simcoe Police Service officers responded to the area of Line 6 and Inverness Way for a report of a van that had struck another vehicle and a street sign before getting stuck in a snow bank. The vehicle managed to reverse out of the snow bank and drive off at a high rate of speed.  

Responding officers conducted a traffic stop and spoke to the driver. An odour of alcohol was detected and the driver was arrested for operation while impaired. He was transported to South Division where breath tests resulted in readings over twice the legal limit.

As a result of investigation, Benjamin Moore of Schomberg is charged with:

  • Impaired operation
  • Over 80
  • Dangerous operation
  • Failure to stop after accident

His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days. A number of other charges were also laid, including cannabis readily available and failure to surrender licence.
