Police seek witnesses to Vaughan Mills Mall shooting incident

Investigators with the York Regional Police #4 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have laid charges and are seeking additional witnesses following a shooting in the City of Vaughan.

On Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2018, shortly after 7 p.m., York Regional Police responded to Vaughan Mills Mall following reports of sounds of gunshots. When officers arrived, witnesses reported that the suspects involved in the shooting had fled the area.

Police were later notified that a man had attended a hospital suffering from a gunshot wound. His injuries are considered non-life threatening. Investigators believe this same man had been in involved in the earlier incident outside of the mall where he was in possession of a firearm. He was later seen with two other men running from the area and fleeing in a vehicle.

Charged:
    •    22-year-old man from the City of Toronto

Charges:
    •    Weapons dangerous
    •    Point a firearm
    •    Unauthorized possession of a firearm
    •    Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle

The accused will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on Aug. 29, 2018.

This investigation is ongoing. Anyone who may have witnessed this incident who has not spoken with investigators is asked to come forward. As well, investigators are seeking anyone that may have captured video of this incident on dashcam or video footage from commercial surveillance systems in the area at the time.
