Police seek missing 11-year-old from Markham (update: located)

Aug. 18 update:

York Regional Police would like to thank the media and the public for the assistance in locating an 11- year-old child who was missing from the City of Markham.

Helen Xiao was last seen Monday, Aug. 16, 2021, around 11:30 p.m. at her residence on the Bridal Walk, which is in the area of Kennedy Road and Major Mackenzie Drive.

She was located at 8:30 a.m. today on Saxon Drive near her residence and has been reunited with her family.

York Regional Police is seeking public assistance in locating a missing 11-year-old child from the City of Markham.

On Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2021, officers responded to a residence on the Bridal Walk, which is in the area of Kennedy Road and Major Mackenzie Drive for a report regarding a missing child.

The family advised that they believed that 11-year-old Helen Xiao left the home sometime overnight last night between 11:30 p.m. on Monday Aug.16, 2021 and 8 a.m., on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2021.

Officers have not been able to locate her and are growing increasingly concerned. She does not have a cell phone but may have some money with her.
