York Regional Police officers are continuing to search for an armed man after two people were shot outside a Thornhill mall Sunday night.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the parking lot of the Promenade Mall at Bathurst and Centre streets at about 9 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 16.

A 17-year-old male youth and a 30-year-old man were taken to hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds, police said.

Investigators believe one victim had been sitting inside a silver car, while the other victim was standing outside the vehicle speaking to him when a masked suspect approached the vehicle and fired multiple shots, striking both victims. The suspect then fled northbound on foot.

Witnesses who have not yet spoken to police are being asked to come forward.

Investigators are also seeking video surveillance and dashcam videos from the area at the time of the incident.

The force is also reminding residents and business owners to sign up for the new security camera registry, which may assist police if a crime later occurs in your neighbourhood.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the York Regional Police #4 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-866-876-5423, ext.7441, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222- TIPS or leave an anonymous tip online at www.1800222tips.com.
