Police investigating Newmarket assault as possible hate crime

One adult is in hospital, and another is arrested in the Sunday afternoon incident

York Regional Police officers are investigating an assault that occurred Sunday afternoon in a Yonge Street parking lot in Newmarket as a possible hate crime.

"Hate crime investigators are engaged," York Regional Police reported on its Twitter account at about 5:30 p.m. of the Oct. 27 incident at Yonge and Dawson Manor Blvd., in the north end of Newmarket. 

One adult victim is in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and one adult has been arrested.
