Police investigating armed break and enter in Richmond Hill

Police were called to a Richmond Hill home on Wednesday after reports that a suspect with a handgun broke into the residence and threatened the homeowner. Nobody was injured

Investigators with the York Regional Police #2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau are seeking public assistance to identify a suspect following an armed break and enter into a home in the City of Richmond Hill.

On Wednesday, June 3, 2020, York Regional Police were called to a residence on Albright Crescent for a weapons call. Information was received that a suspect armed with a handgun had broken into a residence, threatened the homeowner and then fled. When officers arrived they found the victim, a 43-year-old woman, who was not physically injured.

The investigation has revealed that at approximately 4 a.m., a vehicle pulled into the driveway of the home and a suspect exited the vehicle and went to the front door. The suspect used a hammer to break the glass beside the door, then reached in and unlocked the door. The noise woke up the victim and she met the suspect at the top of the stairs. The suspect pointed the handgun at the victim and threatened her. He then claimed that he got the wrong house and fled.

The suspect was captured on video surveillance and investigators are releasing the images and are appealing to the public for assistance to identify him.

  • Wearing a white hooded jacket, a white baseball hat, blue jeans and carrying a white backpack

  • Dark coloured compact sport utility vehicle
