Police hope to identify suspect who continues to threaten victim

After the incident was reported in Markham last May, police learned an assault had also occurred in Toronto the month before

Investigators with the York Regional Police #2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau are seeking assistance to identify a suspect after an assault that occurred in May in the City of Markham.

On May 9, 2019 at approximately 12:40 p.m. at a bus stop on the northwest side of Steeles Avenue at Yonge Street, a male suspect approached the victim and threatened and assaulted him. The victim’s mother attempted to stop the suspect and the suspect fled on a bus.

Officers learned that the victim had a previous incident with the same suspect in April 2019 in the City of Toronto when the suspect and the victim, who were not known to each other, got into a verbal argument. The victim was assaulted and the incident was reported to the Toronto Police Service.

On Jan. 3, 2020, the victim and his mother reported that they spotted the suspect at approximately 6:30 p.m., on the YRT Viva Blue Line. The suspect made a comment to the victim referencing the incidents and caused the victim to be fearful for his safety.

Investigators have been working to identify the suspect but have exhausted all leads. They are releasing images of the suspect and are appealing to our community for information that may help identify him.

    •    Male, Black
    •    Medium to muscular build
    •    Thin moustache
    •    Wearing brown jacket
