Pedestrian suffers life-threatening injuries in Vaughan hit-and-run

Investigators with the York Regional Police Major Collision Investigation Unit are seeking witnesses and a suspect following a serious pedestrian fail-to-remain collision in the City of Vaughan.

On Jan. 1, 2019 at approximately 3:20 a.m., officers responded to the area of Jane Street and Pennsylvania Avenue in Vaughan for reports of an injured man laying on the sidewalk. When officers arrived on scene and spoke to witnesses, they determined that the pedestrian had been hit by a small SUV going south on Jane Street. The suspect driver got out of the vehicle and saw the injured man, then got back into his vehicle and did a U-turn and drove away north on Jane Street.

The pedestrian, a 50-year-old man from the City of Toronto, was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Suspect description:
    •    Male, white
    •    30 to 40 years
    •    Short dark hair, partial beard
    •    Wearing a dark coloured zip up hoodie with jeans

Vehicle description:
    •    A small SUV

This is an ongoing criminal investigation. Any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police are being asked to please come forward, as well anyone who may have been driving in the area at the time that may have dashcam footage.

Investigators are also appealing to anyone that has noticed a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle description with fresh, front end damage consistent with striking a person to contact police.
