An Ontario Provincial Police officer is recovering at home now after being injured when he was hit by another driver while attending the scene of multiple collisions this morning on Highway 404 near Bloomington Road.

Several collisions occurred on the ice-covered overpass at about 9 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 24, OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said.

An investigating officer was injured when his cruiser, with its flashing lights, was hit by another vehicle.

The OPP officer and the driver of that vehicle were taken to hospital, and have since been released, he said.

"The officer will be recovering at home for some time," Schmidt added.

Charges are pending, Schmidt said.

"Obviously, conditions were slippery and icy at the time ... but when we have emergency responders, vehicles and tow trucks on the scene, drivers need to be more more alert," Schmidt said in a podcast. "This is why we have the Slow Down Move Over legislation in place."
