A house fire in Keswick early this morning claimed the life of one individual.

Staff Sgt. Mitchell with York Regional Police said they were called to the home on Miami Drive in Keswick about 5:10 a.m. on Jan. 15 for reports of a house fire.

"When we got there along with Georgina Fire and York EMS, the house was fully involved," he said.

Mitchell said they found an individual inside who was deceased. The person is believed to be the only occupant of the home at the time of the fire.

"Once the firefighters had the ability to get inside the remains of the home and knock down most of the fire, unfortunately there was a person who was inside the house and they had lost their life," Mitchell said.

Police are not yet releasing any information about the victim as they work to notify next of kin.

YRP are currently investigating the fire along with the Ontario Fire Marshal and Georgina Fire. The cause of the blaze is not yet known.

The road is closed along Miami from Pompano Drive to Lake Drive. Mitchell said it will remain closed for an extended period of time. You are asked to avoid the area.

More updates will be added as they become available.
