Off-duty York Regional Police detective charged with sexual assault, sexual exploitation

Sexual Assault and Sexual Exploitation charges have been laid against an off-duty York Regional Police officer.

On Monday, March 1, 2021, York Regional Police requested that the Toronto Police Service conduct an independent investigation into one of our officers following allegations of sexual assault.

On Friday, March 5, 2021, the Toronto Police Sex Crimes - Child and Youth Advocacy Centre charged the officer with sexual assault and sexual exploitation.

The officer cannot be named in order to protect the identity of the victim.

The charges laid are not related to any on-duty activities.

The officer has been employed with York Regional Police since 2004 and holds the rank of detective. He will be suspended pending the outcome of the court process.
