A Newmarket table tennis coach has been charged after one of his 13-year-old students reported several incidents of sexual assault.
Jianfei Sun, 38, of Newmarket, is charged with three counts of sexual assault, three counts of sexual interference under 16, and invitation to sexual touching.
York Regional Police began investigating on Feb. 11 when one of his female students reported being assaulted during private lessons at the accused's home, where he runs JF Table Tennis Club.
The victim reported incidents that occurred in the fall of 2022 and continued into this year, police said.
Investigators said they believe the suspect had access other children through his coaching and are releasing his photo to urge any additional victims or witnesses to come forward.
A sexual assault is any non-consensual touching of a sexual nature. There is no statute of limitations for sexual offences meaning offenders can be prosecuted well after the assault took place.
