Newmarket residents robbed by armed intruder while they slept

The suspect broke into the house near Yonge and Davis, and took a large knife from the kitchen before entering the bedroom early Saturday

Investigators with the York Regional Police #1 District Criminal Investigations Bureau are seeking public assistance in identifying a suspect following a break and enter into a home in the Town of Newmarket.

On Saturday, May 23, 2020, at approximately 7:45 a.m., officers responded to a residence on Adam Place, which is in the area of Yonge Street and Davis Drive, for a report of a break and enter that had occurred overnight while the family was asleep.

Officers spoke with the homeowners and reviewed video surveillance and determined that a lone male suspect approached the home just before 3 a.m., and entered two unlocked vehicles in the driveway. The suspect then forced entry into the home through French doors at the front entrance. The suspect entered the kitchen and took a large knife and tucked it in the waist band of his pants then proceeded through the house.

The suspect entered the homeowners’ bedroom while they were sleeping and took a cellphone and a quantity of currency. The homeowners did not wake up during the incident and discovered what had occurred when they woke up in the morning.

The suspect was captured on video surveillance and investigators are releasing the images and are appealing to the public for assistance to identify the suspect.

Suspect Description: 

  • Male, white  
  • Short, dark hair  
  • Heavy build 
  • Tattoo on the inside of his left forearm
