Newmarket pedestrian, 84, killed in collision on Leslie Street

Investigators with the York Regional Police Major Collision Investigation Unit are seeking witnesses following a fatal pedestrian collision in the Town of Newmarket.

On Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2019, at approximately 5:40 p.m., officers came upon a collision that had occurred on Leslie Street near Wayne Drive in Newmarket. Officers determined that a pedestrian was crossing Leslie Street when he was struck by a Kia Optima going south on Leslie Street.

The pedestrian, an 84-year-old man from Newmarket, was transported to hospital where he was sadly pronounced deceased.

The driver of the Kia, a 32-year-old man from Mississauga, remained at the scene. He was not physically injured.

The investigation is ongoing and any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police, or anyone who may have dashcam footage of the collision, are asked to please come forward.
