Newmarket man charged after false report of carjacking made: OPP

The 27-year-old faces a mischief charge in connection with a carjacking in Perth that police say didn't actually occur

PERTH — The Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a man from Newmarket with filing a false report of a carjacking.

The initial report of the carjacking was made the morning of July 31, 2022 and police were provided with a description of a male suspect. The vehicle in question was located by police the same day in Tay Valley Township and it appeared to have been involved in a collision. Further investigation into this occurrence lead investigators to conclude that the reported carjacking had not actually occurred.

As a result of this investigation Raymond Francis-Burroughes, 27, of Newmarket has been charged with public mischief. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on Sept. 12, 2022.
