Newmarket man arrested in Bradford carjacking investigation

Victim was struck with his own vehicle; remains in critical condition at Toronto trauma centre

South Simcoe Police Service officers have charged a 29-year-old Newmarket man following a robbery and fail to remain collision in Bradford.

On Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019 around 9 p.m., police were called to the area of Drury and Thomas streets for a report of a fail to remain collision. A 67-year-old Mississauga man suffered critical injuries after being struck by his own pickup truck. Investigation has determined that the victim was carjacked. The victim was struck with his own vehicle as the accused made off with the victim's truck.

The vehicle was located a short time later at Frederick and Toronto streets.

Following an extensive investigation involving officers from many different units, the 29-year-old Newmarket man was charged with criminal negligence cause bodily harm, dangerous driving cause bodily harm, fail to stop at the scene of a collision, robbery, and operate motor vehicle while prohibited.

He was arrested this morning, Dec. 19, 2019. The male was taken to make an appearance in Bail Court in Barrie Provincial Court today.

The victim remains in critical condition at a Toronto trauma centre.
