Newmarket man among 4 arrested in OPP grow op bust

A Newmarket man is among four men charged in connection with an illegal grow operation in Verona, according to Ontario Provincial Police South Frontenac.

Officers responded to call regarding suspected drug offences on Verona Sand Road on Monday July 27.

During their investigation, officers seized a significant quantity of cannabis plants, police said.  

Inpan Boutarath, 56, of Newmarket, Xiaoping Chen, 51, of North York, Cao Ming Li, 61, of Colborne and Yi Zheng, 23, of North York are charged with:

  • Cultivate, propagate or harvest more than four cannabis plants - Cannabis Act -12(4)(b)
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000 - Criminal Code - 354(1)(a)

The accused individuals were released from custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Kingston at a later date.
