Markham man charged for refusing to stop, collision with cruiser

BROCKVILLE – A Markham resident is facing charges after vehicle refused to stop for police in the Brockville area, with an OPP cruiser being damaged.

On Sept. 24, 2020, shortly after 1 p.m., a member of the Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of vehicle being drive erratically on Highway 401 westbound near Brockville.

The officer attempted to stop the vehicle near Brockville, but the driver refused to stop and continued westbound. During another attempt to stop the vehicle, an OPP cruiser was deliberately struck, causing minor damage. 

The vehicle was eventually stopped in the Greater Napanee area, through the use of a tire deflation device by members of the L&A County and Frontenac OPP Detachments. One person was taken into custody without incident.

Fei Chang Chen, 28, of Markham has been charged under the Criminal Code with: 

  • Dangerous operation - sec. 320.13(1)  
  • Flight from peace officer - sec. 320.17

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville on Oct. 23, 2020.
