Markham man charged after serious collision with motorcyclist

Investigators with the York Regional Police Major Collision Investigation Unit have charged a 22-year-old man following a serious collision in the City of Markham that left a motorcyclist with life-altering injuries.

On Saturday, July 28, 2018, at approximately 12 p.m., police responded to a collision involving a motorcycle and a Honda S2000 on Markham Road, south of Highway 407.

The motorcyclist, a 49-year-old man from Markham, was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition. He survived, but was left with life-altering injuries.

The driver of the Honda, a 21-year-old man from Markham, was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

On Friday, January 25, 2019, the driver of the Honda turned himself into police and has been charged.

Charged:

  • Hassan Mir, 22, City of Markham

Charges:

  • Dangerous Operation Causing Bodily Harm

Mr. Mir has been released and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on Feb. 28, 2019.
