Markham man, 19, arrested after Highway 401 chase

Charges include dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and stunt driving

On Aug. 12, 2019 at approximately 2:01 a.m. officers of the Lennox & Addington County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a vehicle travelling eastbound on Highway 401 east of County Rd 49.    

Officers initiated a traffic stop, however, the vehicle failed to stop. The vehicle accelerated away at a high rate of speed, passing other vehicles in a dangerous manner and exited the 401 at County Rd 41. Officers were able to intercept and stop the vehicle on County Road 11 in Greater Napanee and the driver was arrested.

Police have charged Minsong Wang, 19, of Markham contrary to the Criminal Code with:

  • Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle 
  • Flight From Police

The accused was also charged contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with:

  • Drive while under suspension
  • Stunt driving

The accused was held in custody and appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice for a bail hearing.
