Man tossing items out of window prompts temporary closure of Yonge

Yonge is closed in Aurora between Kennedy and Tyler, police advise the area should be avoided

A man throwing items onto Yonge Street in Aurora from the second storey of building has resulted in a large police presence and temporary road closure.

Yonge is closed between Kennedy and Tyler streets as a result.

Police received reports before 12:30 p.m. June 7 about a person throwing items from an apartment window. The street was closed as there are concerns that someone could be injured by an object being thrown, according to York Regional Police Const. Laura Nicolle, media relations officer.

A YRP officer on the scene told bystanders on Church Street that it wasn't a safe place to stand as they were not sure if the individual was armed.

There have been no injuries and police said there is no risk to public safety at this time.

Nicolle said the person is now refusing to come out of the apartment. Due to the nature of the incident, she said it is not known how long the road closure will be in place.

Police are asking people to avoid the area while this situation is being resolved. Nicolle thanked the public for their patience and understanding.
