Man charged in child porn investigation involving girl, 12, on social media

South Simcoe Police have released the accused man's name and social media user names out of concern that there may be other victims

A 23-year-old Innisfil man is facing charges following a child pornography investigation. South Simcoe Police Service officers began an investigation after receiving information from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) regarding child pornography involving a 12-year-old girl over social media sites including Snapchat and Instagram.  

As a result, a man was arrested on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2019 and police executed a search warrant at a home in the 9th Line and 25th Sideroad area of Innisfil. Investigators continue to sift through the material seized and further other investigative strategies to determine if other victims exist.  

This investigation is ongoing, however the South Simcoe Police Service are releasing the accused man's name and social media user names at this time out of concern there may be other victims.

Police have charged 23-year-old Shiva Dhanna of Innisfil with the following offences:

  • Extortion
  • Make sexually explicit material available to person under 18 years of age
  • Exposure to person under 16
  • Possession of child pornography
  • Make obscene matter
  • Luring a person under 18 years of age by means of telecommunications

The accused appeared for a Bail Hearing Feb. 21 and was released on a recognizance with strict conditions.

This investigation should be a reminder of the need for parents and guardians to remain vigilant by monitoring their children's social media activity. South Simcoe Police Service will continue to work with our policing and community partners to ensure the safety of children.
