Man arrested after resident of Georgina group home sexually assaulted

Investigators with the York Regional Police Special Victims Unit have laid charges against a 39-year-old man in connection with a sexual assault in the Town of Georgina.

On June 17, 2021, investigators received information from staff at a group home on Old Homestead Road that an adult male resident with a developmental delay reported that he was a victim of a sexual assault that had occurred between June 3 and June 17, 2021.

On Friday, June 18, 2021, officers arrested the suspect who was also staying at the same group home.

The accused is known to frequent group homes throughout the Greater Toronto Area and investigators are appealing to anyone with information or any additional victims to please come forward.

Charged:
    •    Edward Alvarez, 39 of no fixed address

Charges:
    •    Sexual assault

The accused was released on bail and will be appearing again before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on July 15, 2021.
