Man, 25, charged following bank robbery in Markham

Investigators with the York Regional Police Hold-up Unit have laid charges in connection with the armed bank robbery in the City of Markham.

On Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2021, just before 2 p.m., officers were called to a bank located at 2900 Steeles Ave. East for a report of a robbery. The caller reported that a lone male suspect entered the bank, threatened to shoot the employee and demanded cash. The suspect obtained a quantity of cash and fled from the scene on foot.

When police arrived, an officer located the suspect and engaged in a foot pursuit. An interaction occurred between the officer and the suspect and the suspect was shot. He was taken to hospital with non-lifethreatening injuries. The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating the shooting portion of this incident.

The suspect has been released from hospital and has been charged in connection with the robbery.

  • Tristan CLARKE, 25, of no fixed address

CHARGES: 

  • Robbery with a Firearm 
  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x5

Investigators are appealing to any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police to come forward. Officers would also like to speak with anyone who may have video surveillance or dashcam footage of the incident.
