Loaded guns seized, 32 charges laid against 2 men

Investigators with the York Regional Police High-Risk Offender Unit have seized firearms and laid 32 charges against two men following an investigation into bail condition violations.

On Jan. 9, 2020, investigators with the York Regional Police High Risk Offender Unit and officers with the Emergency Response Unit stopped a vehicle that was being operated by a suspect known to possess firearms. The suspect was arrested for breaching his conditions and when he was searched, officers located a stolen fully loaded .45 calibre Glock handgun.

The passenger in the vehicle was also investigated and was found to be in possession of a loaded .40 calibre Ruger handgun. Officers searched the vehicle and located a located a large quantity of cocaine with an estimated street value of $7,000. Charged:

  • Rahul Sahota, 19, of no fixed address
  • Praveen Prashanthan, 20, of the City of Toronto 
Charges Include:
  • Fail to Comply with Conditions of Recognizance x3
  • Weapon Possession for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Carry Concealed Weapon
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
  • Possession of Prohibited Firearm With Ammunition
  • Possession of a Weapon Obtained by Crime
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Possession for the Purpose Trafficking: Cocaine X4

The accused parties have been held in custody and will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on Jan. 17, 2020.
