Heroin, loaded handguns seized during shoplifting investigation

York Regional Police #4 District Criminal Investigations Bureau officers have charged five men and seized a quantity of heroin and two loaded handguns following a shoplifting investigation.

An investigation began into two men from the City of Brampton after a series of thefts from retail stores occurred in York Region and Peel Region. On Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019, (it is alleged that) the suspects attended two separate large-box stores in the City of Brampton and stole a quantity of electronics. The suspects sold the stolen items then were observed making what appeared to be a drug purchase involving three additional suspects in a vehicle. Officers stopped the vehicle and arrested the suspects.

During a search of the vehicle, officers located two loaded handguns, heroin and a quantity of currency.

Charged:
    •    Fouad Tabangi, 35, of the City of Brampton
    •    Ralph Tabangi, 33 of the City of Brampton

Charges:
    •    Theft - shoplifting under $5,000 x3
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
    •    Trafficking in property obtained by crime under $5,000
    •    Possession of heroin
    •    Fail to comply with conditions of recognizance

Charged:
    •    Samawade Abdullahi, 24, of Etobicoke
    •    Tyrell McFarlane, 26, of Mississauga
    •    Athrin Deko,  29, of Mississauga

Charges:
    •    Possession of a weapon
    •    Possession of prohibited firearm with ammunition
    •    Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon
    •    Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
    •    Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
    •    Tampering with serial number of a firearm
    •    Store firearm or restricted weapon contrary to regulations
    •    Trafficking heroin
    •    Possession for the purpose of trafficking - heroin
    •    Adult possession over 30 grams - cannabis
