York Regional Police have arrested 23 people, including one man from Newmarket, and seized almost $100,000 worth of drugs after a months-long investigation in Georgina.
Between Feb. 1 and June 15, 2021, police identified and investigated multiple people in “a continued effort targeting suspects involved in trafficking cocaine and fentanyl,” according to a news release.
As part of the project, search warrants were executed at four residences in Georgina, as well as four houses and two businesses in Toronto.
Police ultimately seized 117 grams of fentanyl, 291 grams of cocaine, 14 grams of MDMA, 13 MDMA capsules, more than seven pounds of cannabis, 519 grams of psilocybin, and 30 oxycocet pills.
The drugs have a combined street value of $95,500. They also found $94,790 in cash.
There were 81 charges laid and 23 people were arrested as a result of this investigation.
“York Regional Police is committed to combating the distribution of opioids in our community,” the release stated.
Dubbed Project Heater, the investigation was lead by YRP #3 District Criminal Investigations Bureau with support from the Criminal Intelligence Service of Ontario and funding from the Ontario government.
YRP identified the following 22 people who were arrested and charged:
