Dump truck driver charged in fatal collision with cyclist

Investigators with the York Regional Police Major Collision Investigation Unit have charged the driver of the dump truck following a fatal collision involving a cyclist in the City of Richmond Hill. On Monday, May 6, 2019, at 1 p.m., York Regional Police were called to the area of Bayview Avenue and Woodriver Street for a report of a cyclist who had been struck by a dump truck.

When officers arrived they located the cyclist, a 44-year-old female from the City of Richmond Hill, was deceased at the scene. The driver of the dump truck remained at the scene. On Thursday, May 30, 2019, following a thorough investigation, police charged the driver of the dump truck.

Charged:

  • Balwinder Singh, 55, City of Brampton

Charge:

  • Dangerous driving causing death
