Driver who had been shot found dead in Markham collision (UPDATE)

UPDATE: The victim has been identified as Wei You, 32, of Markham. He was driving an orange Jeep Wrangler. Anyone with information on the incident or who may have observed the vehicle is asked to contact York Regional Police at 1-866-876-5423 ext. 7865, or [email protected].

Investigators with the York Regional Police Homicide Unit are seeking witnesses following a shooting in the City of Markham.

On Tuesday, July 28, 2020, shortly before 3:30 a.m., York Regional Police responded to reports of sounds of gunshots and a vehicle that had collided with a hydro pole in the area of Denison Street and Brimley Road. Officers and York Region Paramedic Services arrived at the scene and located an orange Jeep Wrangler with an adult male driver inside who had been shot. He was sadly pronounced deceased.

The investigation is ongoing.

Investigators are appealing to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area who have not yet spoken to police, or anyone who may have been driving in the area at the time with a dashcam to please come forward.
