Doctor charged with sexual assaults at Schomberg clinic

York Regional Police say Dr. Wameed Ateyah may have practised at other clinics in southern Ontario, and any other potential victims are asked to come forward

Investigators with the York Regional Police Special Victims Unit – Sexual Assault Section, have charged a 49-year-old doctor in connection with seven sexual assaults that occurred on two victims at a medical clinic in the Township of King.

The investigation began in August 2020 when two victims, 49-year-old and 28-year-old females, came forward to report that they had been sexually assaulted by their doctor during visits to their medical clinic. The investigation revealed that from 2008 to 2017, the victims had attended appointments at the Schomberg Medical Centre, located at 17250 Highway 27.

Investigators believe that this doctor practised at the Schomberg Medical Centre, as well as other clinics in southern Ontario and want to ensure that there are no further victims. Anyone with information is asked to come forward.

A sexual assault includes any non-consensual contact of a sexual nature. York Regional Police would like to encourage anyone who feels they may have been a victim of a sexual assault to come forward and report the incident to police. There is no statute of limitations for sexual offences and offenders can be prosecuted well after the date of the offence.
