Cyclist trapped under vehicle, seriously injured in Aurora

UPDATE, 4:50 p.m.: York Regional have reopened St. John's Sideroad from Bayview Avenue to Gateway Drive.

A cyclist has been taken to the hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a vehicle and trapped under it for some time in Aurora this morning. 

The call came in at 8:50 a.m. on June 1 for a male cyclist who was struck by a vehicle on St. John's Sideroad, east of Trent Street, York Regional Police Const. Maniva Armstrong said. 

The cyclist was trapped under the vehicle, which was black BMW, and sustained serious injuries but remained conscious. The driver remained on the scene. 

Paramedic and fire services responded to the collision and the man was transported to the hospital. 

All lanes of St. John's remain closed from Bayview Avenue to Gateway Drive for investigation. Drivers are asked to find an alternative route.
