Investigators with the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit have arrested a 49-year-old man and are seeking a second suspect following a robbery at a restaurant in the City of Markham.

On Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019 at approximately 2 a.m., York Regional Police responded to an all-day breakfast restaurant located on Kennedy Road just north of Steeles Avenue for reports of a robbery.

Officers learned that two suspects entered the restaurant and one was armed with a firearm. The suspects took cash from the register then fled south on Kennedy Road in a silver Acura four-door sedan.

The owner of the restaurant chased the suspects in his vehicle and was involved in a collision with the suspect vehicle.

The two suspects fled on foot in separate directions. Officers set up a perimeter and officers with the Canine Unit were able to track and locate one of the suspects who had barricaded himself inside a portable washroom. The Emergency Response Unit attended and successfully arrested the suspect.

The investigation is ongoing and the second suspect is still outstanding.
