Cleaning woman charged in $25K jewelry theft

Investigators with the York Regional Police Number 4 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have charged a 27-year-old cleaner with the theft of jewelry from a client’s home.

The investigation began in November 2018 when a victim came forward to report that jewelry had been stolen from their home in the City of Vaughan. The victim had hired the accused through a cleaning service. Investigators believe that during a cleaning in early October 2018, the accused stole more than $25,000 worth of jewelry.

As the investigation progressed, police believe the accused is responsible for thefts of jewelry from other clients’ homes in York Region and Toronto.

On Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019, the accused was placed under arrest without incident in Toronto and has since been charged. Investigators are releasing an image of the accused as they believe that there may be additional victims.

Charged:

  • Anett Kiss, 27, City of Toronto

Charges:

  • Theft over $5,000 x2
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Theft under $5,000

The accused has been released on bail and will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on Feb. 7, 2019.
