UPDATE: Body found on northbound Highway 400 in Bradford

UPDATE: The deceased has been identified as a 37-year-old former resident of Bradford

UPDATE, Jan. 19, 10:25 p.m.: The body discovered in the area of Highway 400 northbound near Highway 88 in Bradford West Gwillimbury has been identified as a 37-year-old female formerly of Bradford, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.

The name of the woman is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification, police said, as the investigation continues.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 20 to determine the cause of death.

UPDATE, Jan. 19, 10:30 a.m.: The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) located the body of an unidentified deceased female in the area of Highway 400 northbound near Highway 88 in Bradford West Gwillimbury after receiving a call from a motorist yesterday afternoon.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death, police said in a news release.

Police received the call from the motorist who had discovered the remains at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday Jan. 18. Officers from the OPP Aurora detachment arrived on scene and located the body.

There will be a continued police presence on Highway 400 northbound between the 5th Line and Highway 88 as the investigation continues, police said. 

Police do not believe there is any threat to public safety.

The Highway Safety Division OPP Crime Unit is continuing this investigation, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

The OPP is asking anyone who travelled the area between the evening of Jan. 15 and the morning of Jan. 18, who may have dashcam video, or who may have observed any parked vehicles or persons on the shoulder of the road, to contact police at 1-888-310-1122. Police are investigating the discovery of a body along Highway 400 in Bradford West Gwillimbury.

According to a tweet by provincial police, the body was found along the northbound lanes between the 5th Line and Highway 88 on Wednesday.

There is very little information available at this time. The investigation is ongoing.

Police urge anyone with information or dash cam footage from the area over the past 72 hours to contact the OPP at 905-841-5777.
