Body found in garage following Keswick house fire

Officers with the York Regional Police #3 District Criminal Investigations Bureau continue to investigate following a fatal fire at a residence in the Town of Georgina.

On Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021, shortly after 1:10 a.m., police, York Region Paramedic Services, and Georgina Fire and Rescue Services were called to a residence on Windover Drive for a report of a fire.

When officers arrived they found the home fully engulfed in flames. Officers located a woman who had escaped from the residence. Officers ran inside to check the home for a male occupant who had not come out.

Georgina Fire and Rescue Services arrived and extinguished the fire.

Sadly, the body of a deceased adult male was located inside the attached garage.

Several officers were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and other minor injuries.

The Ontario Fire Marshal was contacted and is investigating. The fire is not considered to be suspicious at this time.

Investigators are appealing to anyone who may have seen or heard anything in the area to please come forward.
