A bank robbery suspect was shot by a York Regional Police officer this afternoon in Markham.
The man was sent to hospital with non-life threatening injuries after a bank robbery at about 2 p.m. Dec. 15 at 2900 Steeles Ave., according to police.
A man had entered the bank, demanded cash and threatened to shoot an employee. The suspect fled on foot after obtaining cash.
Officers were able to locate the man, who during an interaction with police was shot.
The York Regional Police hold-up unit will be investigating the robbery portion of the incident and Ontario's Special Investigations Unit has been notified regarding the shooting.
Investigators are appealing to any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police to come forward. Officers would also like to speak with anyone who may have video surveillance or dashcam footage of the incident.
