Armed carjacking at Vaughan intersection thwarted by locked door

A woman had a gun pointed at her in an attempted carjacking while she was stopped at a red light in Vaughan Wednesday night.

The victim was in her 2012 white Honda Civic on Highway 7 at Interchange Way on Wednesday, April 26 at 5:25 p.m. when a dark-coloured Hyundai stopped beside her, York Regional Police said in a news release.

A man got out of the passenger side of his vehicle and pointed a firearm at the woman while attempting to open the passenger door of her vehicle, which was locked, police said. The suspect then returned to his vehicle, which fled the scene prior to police arriving.

Police are searching for two men. The first suspect is described as male, South Asian and 6 feet 2 inches tall, while the second suspect and driver of the Hyundai is described as male, white and wearing sunglasses.

Investigators are appealing to any witnesses who have not yet spoken with them to come forward. Officers would also like to speak with anyone who may have video surveillance or dashcam footage of the incident.
